Eli goes through the first few chapters of Arthur Firstenberg’s book, The Invisible Rainbow, which documents the correlation between rollouts of new electrical technologies and the new diseases caused by these rollouts. Part 1 deals with the diseases encountered by the earliest experiments with electricity and the global epidemic of “neurasthenia” which was associated with the rollout of telegraphy worldwide.
